Mostly surrounded by dull objects in our daily routine, it’s obvious to ignore their presence.
What if one of them would like to communicate, can things conscientiously connect with us?
Animism is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.s
But can the spiritual exist in design?
Younger generations, especially Gen Z1 have always been surrounded by smart devices, so much that, relying on them has become a natural part of their routines. As we know, building an emotional attachment with belongings helps with taking good care of it. There must be an element of faith in all of that.
People use technology in a similar way to religion. These objects are designed to manifest a « set of rules » for the followers to adhere to.
Therefore, I couldn’t unsee the correlation between religious ceremonies and contemporary rites practiced in fields as diverse as politics, sports, student life, leisure, and media.
My intention in this project is to interrogate this correlation between technology and faith by creating an object-mediated interaction that allows people to re-introduce themselves to religious rituals, especially Catholics, with a language they are familiar with.
This reliquary allows you to bring something precious with you while praying, and encourages its owner, to go to the mass, so it can ‘charge’ spiritually while being surrounded by others.
Another way of introducing yourself to the community.
Because in the end, a rite is not an intellectual event, It is an experience.
